🔻UK government rejects The Telegraph report about Iran cyber attack
The UK government rejected a report by The Telegraph about an alleged Iranian cyber attack on an electricity power plant in the country and said the incident affected a small-scale energy generator, not a power plant.
The Telegraph had reported on its front page that Iran, in a “unprecedented” cyber attack, had shut down a power plant in the UK for four days.
But a spokesperson for the UK government said the country’s energy system has high resilience and “at no point was there any risk to the wider energy system.”
UK government sources also described The Telegraph’s report as exaggerated and said the incident involved no power plant.
The UK government says that after the incident, the Ministry of Energy Security and Net Zero informed senior executives of energy companies and sent recommendations and guidelines to the companies for next steps.
The UK National Cyber Security Centre also plays a role in handling serious cyber incidents and coordinating the government’s response with the affected organizations.
