Washington Free Beacon, in a report, wrote that Abdel Al-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from the state of Michigan, has repeatedly defended Islamic Sharia in recent years and said that following it is his duty until the end of his life.

The report, citing Al-Sayed’s interview with The New York Times in 2009, quoted him as saying that until the day of his death he considers himself committed to Islamic Sharia. Free Beacon also referred to his interview with Laura Loomer during the failed Michigan gubernatorial campaign in 2018; an interview in which Al-Sayed denied describing himself as “conforming to Sharia” and left before the end of the conversation.

The report also referred to a documentary of Al-Sayed’s campaign and wrote that he had asked the film’s makers not to film from the bookcase in his home, including the Quran and some books related to Islam.

Washington Free Beacon also referred to Al-Sayed’s 2022 speech, in which he had compared a proposal to ban Sharia in Oklahoma with several historical events in that state.
