🔸26 countries condemn executions of protesters in Iran

26 countries on Wednesday, August 12, in a joint statement, condemned the executions of protesters and the use of the death penalty by officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and called for an immediate halt to the implementation of death sentences.

In the statement, which the German Foreign Office also published, countries including Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and a number of European countries, along with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union, condemned the executions of protesters in Iran “in the strongest terms.”

The signatories said that the use of the death penalty to silence dissent, intimidate communities, and punish individuals who exercise their human rights is never justifiable.

These countries called on the Islamic Republic to immediately stop the use of the death penalty.

They also demanded the release of all people who, according to them, have been detained arbitrarily.

The joint statement said that the people of Iran should be able to use their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without fear.
