🔻 Activities at Al-Mukha Port halted after Houthi attacks

The head of Al-Mukha port in Yemen announced today that the port’s commercial and maritime operations have been suspended after more than 25 Houthi rockets hit in recent days.

According to Reuters, Abdelmalik Al-Sharabi, speaking at a press conference at the Red Sea port, said that the attacks resulted in the deaths of seven people—four security personnel and three port workers—and left about $16 million in damage.

He said that the suspension of port operations has deprived 1,300 workers of their livelihood.

A four-year ceasefire in Yemen’s internal war, which Saudi Arabia had entered more than a decade ago, collapsed last month. In retaliation for Saudi Arabia’s blockade, the Houthis announced a reciprocal blockade and attacked Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.

The Houthis hold control over large parts of Yemen, including Sana’a, the capital, and areas along the border with Saudi Arabia’s coastal provinces in the Red Sea.
