🔻 China announces its opposition to “illegal” U.S. sanctions against Iran’s airline companies.

Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, said that from tomorrow, the skies of the world will be closed to all Iranian airline companies and that any cooperation with these companies will lead to sanctions.

Guo Jiakong, spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a press briefing: “China has always opposed unilateral, illegal sanctions that lack any basis in international law or approval by the United Nations Security Council.”

This criticism was raised before Donald Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping, China’s leader, on Thursday.

In recent days, Scott Bessent has discussed sanctions on Iran with China’s first vice premier, and, according to him, sanctions on Iran will be one of the topics of discussion between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
