🔻 Macron: Negotiations with Trump were very constructive Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, said he had “very constructive” talks with Donald Trump about the war in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Mr. Macron, who traveled to New York to attend the annual meeting of world leaders at the United Nations, held discussions with his American counterpart.

Mr. Macron said the meeting also discussed a desire to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

He said: “Several solutions were discussed... which could provide routes and tools for more cargo ships and oil tankers to pass, without reaching a comprehensive agreement.”

He added: “Another issue we talked about was the situation in the Red Sea... This issue is important for global prices.”

With the Strait of Hormuz blocked, the Red Sea has become one of the important routes for transporting oil, but control of the important Bab al-Mandab strait in this region by the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen has made shipping operations face even greater challenges.
