🔻Cuban representatives left the hall during Trump’s speech

U.S. President Donald Trump, on Tuesday, described Cuba as one of America’s closest neighbors in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, and said that the country is “completely defeated.” He also said his administration is pursuing “a fundamental change in Cuba’s situation.”

Trump said: “This situation will change.”

As Trump continued speaking, the Cuban delegation left the General Assembly hall.

Over the past year, the U.S. president has increased his criticisms of the communist government of Cuba. On Tuesday, he said the Cuban government is under “enormous pressure” and “failing more than at any time before.”

However, the U.S. government has so far not provided specific details about what the changes it wants in Cuba would look like from Washington’s perspective.

In response to Trump’s remarks, Cuba’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, criticized him and accused him of spreading “false claims.”

Rodríguez wrote on the social media platform X: “The U.S. government cannot accept that Cuba is a completely independent, sovereign country and has the right to remain such a country.”
