Hosein Shariatmadari, the representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic in the Kayhan Institute, asked responsible officials to implement the “Hijab Law” and said they must be held accountable for refraining from confronting immodesty.

Shariatmadari wrote in the Kayhan newspaper that, according to him, more women and girls who do not observe compulsory hijab are “sincere people” who are unaware of the political dimensions of the issue.

Citing remarks by the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, he described not observing hijab as “religiously and politically forbidden” and wrote that intelligence institutions of countries opposed to the Islamic Republic support opposition to compulsory hijab. Shariatmadari considered the presence of women without compulsory hijab at government ceremonies and “anti-American and anti-Israeli gatherings” as a sign that some of them are aligned with the Islamic Republic.
