In response to the U.S. attack on Larak Island, Ibrahim Azeizi, head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, threatened Washington with a reciprocal response. On his account on the social network X, Azeizi wrote that the United States’ actions “will not go unanswered,” but he did not provide any explanation about the type or timing of the possible response.
The remarks came after U.S. forces on September 8 targeted two launchers belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Larak Island.
A U.S. official said that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were preparing sea-mine-carrying missiles to be launched toward the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed that the attack occurred and that a number of personnel were killed and injured, and said it would respond to the United States.
Reuters reported the attack as the first acknowledged U.S. strike on positions of the Iranian government since late July.
