🔶Latvia reports an increase in migration pressure at the Belarus border
The situation at the border between Latvia and Belarus has grown more tense. Latvia’s state news network, LSM, has reported that since the beginning of this year, 9,000 attempts to cross the border illegally have been recorded; a figure that is currently about 2,200 higher than the total for last year.
Tensions at the Latvia–Belarus border have risen further in recent weeks. Migrants attempting to enter Latvian territory are mainly from African countries and Central Asia.
Latvian officials say that human traffickers are using tunnels more often in cases to get migrants into the territory of this European Union member state.
