🔶 Mohsen Rezaei was appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council

Following a decree issued by Mojtaba Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic, Mohsen Rezaei— the former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—was appointed as the Leader’s representative on the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic.

At the same time, Seyyed Mahdi Tabatabaei, the deputy for communications and information at the office of the president, wrote on his X social media account: “In view of Mohammad Bagher Zolghader’s resignation from the secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council and the acceptance of his new responsibility, by the order of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Mohsen Rezaei was appointed as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.”

Observers say this appointment could be another sign of the strengthening of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ influence within the government structure.

In a report on Friday, 16 Mordad, the newspaper Sazandegi, citing an informed source, said that Pezeshkian opposed Zolghader’s resignation as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

Sazandegi wrote that, contrary to rumors about an order being issued for his successor by Mohsen Rezaei, Zolghader, the former IRGC commander, still remains Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
