The Trump administration has asked the U.S. Department of Justice to review whether new charges can be brought regarding alleged damage and vandalism of the Lincoln memorial pool, even though prosecutors had previously dismissed related cases.

The move comes after Trump criticized Jani(n)e Peer(o), the senior federal prosecutor in Washington. Her office had rejected charges against David Hearn, a former U.S. Olympic rower, and several others.

Prosecutors had concluded that the extensive damage to the pool was more likely due to problems with the reconstruction’s operations rather than intentional vandalism.

A judge in Washington dismissed the case against Hearn, but will decide on whether prosecutors can file new charges or whether the case must remain closed forever.
