🔶 Rubio: We are ready to meet with Iran’s representatives in New York

Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, said on Tuesday, September 22 (31 Shahrivar) that the United States is ready to talk with Iranians at the United Nations General Assembly, but that no meeting has been planned at present.

In an interview with NBC’s “Today” program, Rubio said: “We’re prepared for this. I don’t think there has been any specific planning at the moment, but we would certainly welcome something like that—especially if it has the potential to lead to a positive outcome and, ultimately, fulfill the main objective of these actions.”

He added: “And that objective is the fact that Iran should never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. They simply and without question cannot have such weapons.”

Mike Waltz, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, also spoke about Donald Trump’s readiness to meet with Masoud Pezeshkian. In an interview with CNN, while emphasizing this readiness, he expressed doubt that Iran’s representatives would be willing to sit down at the table with U.S. representatives in New York.
