The Washington Post, citing informed sources, reported that several senior U.S. military officials have warned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that continuing large-scale operations against the Islamic Republic is not sustainable and is weakening the U.S. military’s ability to deal with other threats, including defending U.S. territory.

According to these individuals, the warnings—which were delivered to Hegseth in the 23 Mordad version of the “Secretary of Defense Orders” book by the chiefs of the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, along with the four-star commanders responsible for U.S. military operations in Europe, Asia and Latin America—are part of a classified document.

According to these sources, senior commanders of U.S. European Command, U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Southern Command, along with the senior officer of the Navy, recorded an “objection” in the document; meaning they do not agree with the Defense Secretary’s order to extend the deployment of their forces, but will carry it out.
