Two U.S. tankers left Bulgaria after a month
🔸Two U.S. Air Force tanker aircraft left the country about a month after their temporary deployment at the Bezmer base in Bulgaria.
🔸The Bulgarian defense minister said on Saturday, 31 Mordad that the two KC-135 aircraft left the country on Friday.
🔸A month earlier, the Bulgarian parliament approved the temporary deployment of these aircraft within the framework of an agreement on the joint use of military facilities with the United States.
🔸At the time, the Iranian government had warned that the United States’ use of Bulgarian soil for operations against Iran would make the country a partner in what Tehran called “aggression and war crimes.” Bulgaria rejected the allegation and said the deployment of tanker aircraft would not turn the country into a party to the war.
🔸The Bulgarian defense minister said that during the period of their deployment, flights by these two aircraft were purely training missions over allied countries, and the government of the country “had no information about any direct threat to national security.”
🔸He added: “We work in full coordination with the U.S. government and had the necessary information in advance, which is why all our decisions were made based on sufficient reasons.”
🔸The departure of these aircraft takes place a few days after the Financial Times, citing sources in Iran, reported that the Islamic Republic, in the event of an escalation of war with the United States, was considering the possibility of targeting objectives in Bulgaria and Cyprus.
🔸In response to that report, a NATO official told Reuters that the organization is prepared to counter any threat and would take any necessary steps to defend all of its allies.
