🔶 Basnet: The US will likely impose new secondary sanctions every week to increase pressure on Iran

Reuters news agency reported on Monday, 9 Shahrivar (31 August), that the U.S. Treasury Department will likely announce a set of new secondary sanctions every week from now on, with the aim of increasing economic pressure on Iran.

Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, told Reuters that the first phase will focus on banks, and the next step may be a complete cut off of an institution’s access to the financial system based on the US dollar.

He added: “You’re going to see far more of these actions every week. We started with the banks and we’re telling them that holding Iran’s money and helping this regime is not acceptable.”
