The status of Iranian applicants’ access to international English language tests has been thrown into uncertainty following the announcement of new U.S. sanctions restrictions.

The English test “Duolingo” is no longer available to holders of Iranian identity documents, and although there has not yet been official information about canceling or suspending the administration of the “TOEFL” test in Iran, applicants have reported the cancellation of their exam on social media.

Duolingo stated that people who use Iranian identity documents will not be able to take this company’s English test. This restriction affects applicants with Iranian identification documents even if they are residing abroad.

At the same time, reports have been published about restrictions on the ability to register and select a test date for TOEFL in Iran. On Saturday, September 7 (August 29), the unofficial TOEFL Resources website reported that booking for the exam is only available for September 5 at two centers near Tehran, and after that this option will not be available.
