Ismail Baghai said on Saturday that Tehran is in talks with Oman to issue a joint statement.

The spokesperson of Iran’s foreign ministry told the Tasnim News Agency that for ships to pass through the Strait, a route map has been agreed with Oman.

Mr. Baghai said that talks with Oman began almost at the same time as the signing of the memorandum of understanding ending the war and have progressed over the past three weeks.

In recent weeks, Iran has said that it has reached an agreement with Oman on the route, but that “interventions” by the United States have prevented it from being finalized.

Mr. Baghai said that “determining the route for transit” is a “technical task with security and environmental considerations” and that all relevant bodies and defense establishments have been involved in it.

He said that talks with Oman on issuing a joint statement are currently underway.

Iran has emphasized that the agreement with Oman does not mean the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
