🔶 Israel’s elections committee voted to remove Arab parties

Israel’s elections committee has prevented Arab parties from participating in the upcoming elections. This decision still needs to be approved by the Supreme Court. The government coalition led by Netanyahu submitted the relevant request.

Based on the decision of Israel’s elections committee, the largest parties representing the country’s Arab minority are set to be kept out of the parliamentary elections. On Wednesday, September 23, the committee voted, at the request of the government coalition, to remove the United Arab list “Ra’am” and the list “Joint List,” as well as two independent candidates from the election.

This decision still needs to be approved by the Supreme Court of Israel. In the past, this court has overturned such decisions to remove parties and candidates in most cases.

The elections committee is made up of representatives of parties that are present in the parliament. Therefore, the committee’s decisions reflect the balance of forces in the Knesset (Israel’s parliament).
