Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that mediators are waiting for the Islamic Republic of Iran and Oman to reach an agreement about the Strait of Hormuz, before broader talks between the Islamic Republic and the United States resume.

Based on a statement by the ministry, an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz would make the resumption of talks much easier.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called the Islamic Republic’s request for the involvement of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the case of the pilots “a media trick.”

According to the same statement, Tehran has not responded to Doha’s invitation to send a delegation regarding the pilots’ case. Qatar said the invitation remains open and that the two countries are in direct contact.

In a statement in mid-Mordad, Majed Al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had described the Islamic Republic’s allegation about the detention of three military pilots as “completely baseless, false, and illogical.”
