🔻 Reza Vali-Zadeh from Evin Prison warns about his physical condition and lack of medical care

CBS says it has received a new audio file from Reza Vali-Zadeh, the Iranian-American journalist imprisoned in Evin, in which he asked for its contents to be made public.

In the message, Mr. Vali-Zadeh says that Iranian officials have not allowed his family to visit him for the past five months, and that he considers this action a form of punishment. He also expressed concern about the lack of adequate medical care in prison and the possibility of being exposed to tuberculosis.

Reza Vali-Zadeh, who previously worked for Radio Farda, has been imprisoned in Iran since 2024. The U.S. State Department says his detention is “illegal.”

CBS also reported that another Iranian-American citizen, Kamran Hekmati, who after a brief medical furlough was returned to prison again, has been unable to receive chemotherapy for a disease that is said to be a return of cancer.

Mr. Vali-Zadeh’s lawyer has asked Donald Trump to prioritize the release of Americans detained in Iran in negotiations with Tehran. In response, Iran’s mission to the United Nations told CBS that it has no comment on the matter.
