The cost to rebuild Bridge B1 has been estimated at “two and a half to three thousand billion tomans.”
This bridge, which had not yet gone into operation, was destroyed in an airstrike on the 13th of Sizdah Bedar, and a number of people were killed.
Hosseinang Bazvand, the managing director of the Iranian company for construction and development of transportation infrastructure, said that the reconstruction operations for this bridge in the Bilqan area of Karaj would likely begin “within a month.”
Fifty percent of the bridge construction project belongs to the municipality and 50 percent to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, and according to Mr. Bazvand, “these two institutions must work hand in hand so that the pace of implementing the project can be pursued with greater speed.”
According to ISNA, the bridge was supposed to connect Karaj North Freeway to “the areas around Karaj and the Tehran-North Freeway,” and play an effective role in reducing traffic load in the area, the distance, and fuel consumption.
Hours after part of Bridge B1 collapsed in Karaj, Donald Trump, by posting images of the bridge being targeted on his social media, wrote: “The biggest bridge in Iran has collapsed and will never be used again. More events are on the way.”
Images of this bridge after the destruction were widely shared on social media.
