🔸The European Union said on Monday that it would continue cooperation with the United States and other international partners and the Group of Seven “to maintain pressure on Iran and help reduce tensions and ensure regional stability.”

🔸In the statement, it said: “The European Union welcomes efforts to ensure that Iran stops its destabilizing activities and takes part in peace negotiations in good faith, including through additional economic pressure, including an economic expulsion operation led by the United States.”

🔸“Economic expulsion operation” is the term that U.S. government officials have used for the new program of economic pressure on the Islamic Republic.

🔸The European Union statement was issued ahead of the start of the Group of 20 meeting hosted by the United States.

🔸Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, told Reuters that at the meeting he will ask the ministers of finance and central bank heads of the world’s countries to cut their economic ties with Iran; otherwise they will face U.S. secondary sanctions.
