🔸 US media: the Leipzig drone apparently came from Russia

After the discovery of a drone carrying explosive materials at the Leipzig/Halle airport in eastern Germany, American media have raised the possibility that it was linked to Russia.

The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials familiar with intelligence reports, wrote that the drone carrying explosive materials was most likely owned by the Russian government.

The U.S. news network "CNN" also reported, citing a U.S. defense official in Europe, that the United States has reached the conclusion that the drone belonged to one of Russia’s intelligence services.

This week, near the Ukrainian transport planes at this airport, a drone equipped with explosive materials and a detonating charge was discovered.

Shortly afterward, a plane that had been forced to take off again due to the blocked runway area collided with an unidentified small flying object; an object that is believed to have been the second drone.

While some experts immediately after the discovery of this drone identified Russia as a likely suspect, Alexander Deubrent, Germany’s Minister of the Interior, urged more caution and described the incident as a “combined attack” carried out by “foreign powers.”

Speaking to the newspaper “Bild am Sonntag,” the Social Christian Party politician said that Germany is not at war, but that it is targeted by hybrid war every day.

According to him, the strategic and tangible goal of foreign powers is to “defeat us politically and socially.”

Deubrent noted that acts of espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert operations are carried out with the aim of destabilizing Germany and stoking fear and concern in society.

The minister of the interior also pointed out that a little more than a week from now, a special research center for drone safety and security will be established at the test airport of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in the Cochstedt area, located in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
