🔻JD Vance, the U.S. vice president, says that the focus of the United States in the current stage of the war is directed toward ensuring the free flow of trade through the Strait of Hormuz.

He said in an interview with Fox News that the attack on Larak Island on Sunday was carried out with the aim of preventing Iran from laying mines in this strait.

He accused Iran’s leadership of trying to block oil and gas exports while lacking “sufficient strategic foresight.”

Describing Iran’s leaders as people who are “truly insane,” the U.S. vice president said: “What is strange to me is that they sometimes even shoot at their own allies, just to prevent the free flow of oil and gas.”

Mr. Vance added that Washington had expected Tehran to take such a path.
