🔶 North Korea’s Defense Minister Removed

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in a sudden move, removed the country’s defense minister and appointed several senior military officials to new positions. These changes are being made shortly after the end of the joint U.S.-South Korea military drills.

North Korea’s state media reported on Sunday, August 30 (September 8), that the country’s defense minister was dismissed as part of changes and reshuffles in the leadership of the country’s military.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), “reorganized structural plans” were approved at a meeting held on Saturday chaired by Kim Jong Un.

As reported by this state outlet, No Kwang Chol was not only removed from the Ministry of Defense, but his position in the leadership of the ruling party was also downgraded, and he was appointed as “first deputy director of the Department of Munitions Industry Administration.”

According to the same report, Kim Song Gye, director of the Political Bureau of the Korean People’s Army, was appointed as the new defense minister.
